The importance of regular check-ups

Regular dental check-ups are vital if you want to prevent long-term oral health consequences such as tooth loss and related health problems. When carried out around twice a year, a dental examination gives your dentist the opportunity to identify any underlying issues, sometimes using x-ray, that may cause problems in the future. In this way, minor treatment can be carried out to correct a problem before it becomes more difficult to treat. This is not only beneficial in terms of convenience, but also cost-effective, as it will help you avoid costly treatment down the road.

There is also a proven connection between oral health and general health – not least because the mouth is the gateway to the body. Because regular dental check-ups play an important role in preventing dental problems, they are also crucial to reducing the risk of chronic health conditions connected with poor oral health – including heart disease, stroke, pneumonia and type 2 diabetes.

Gentle and aesthetic fillings

Fillings are the most common dental treatment and are routinely used when tooth decay has caused a small hole, or cavity, to appear in the tooth. The traditional filling material is metal amalgam, though composite white fillings are increasingly becoming the treatment of choice for their discreet cosmetic appeal. At Eurodental in Swindon, we offer cost-effective amalgam fillings on the NHS, as well as tooth-coloured white fillings. Your dentist will talk you through your options. Having a filling is a routine procedure that involves minimal discomfort or downtime and is usually carried out under a local anaesthetic.

Friendly children’s dentistry

At Eurodental, we are a family dental practice and enjoy getting to know everyone in the family. At our practices in Swindon, we understand that getting your kids to the dentist can sometimes be very stressful and we take every possible step to alleviate as much of this strain as possible. We understand the importance of having the same dentist for the whole family and, as a result of this, we offer NHS dentistry to all children.

Our friendly dentists are very experienced working with children and our practice is extremely welcoming. In addition to providing standard paediatric dentistry, such as fissure sealants and fluoride varnish, we also try to teach them a thing or two about dental hygiene, in the hope that we will need to see them only for their regularly scheduled check-ups.

FAQs

When should I bring my child for their first check-up?

The government recommends bringing your baby in to the dentist when their first tooth erupts or before their first birthday – whichever comes first. We’re happy to meet your little one as soon as you’re happy to bring them in – the earlier the better, so they can grow accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental surgery from an early age.

Why is fluoride important?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that prevents cavities and is highly beneficial to teeth, which is why it’s routinely added to toothpaste. We offer children fluoride varnish, a quick and completely painless procedure that is excellent for preventing child tooth decay.

What do I need to know about fissure sealants?

Fissure sealants are often recommended when the permanent molars erupt and consist of a plastic seal that is smoothed over the tooth surface, preventing food getting stuck in those hard-to-brush areas.
